Summertime fast approaches, and that means festivals galore! On this edition of Shameless, we chat with local singer/songwriter Jody Glenham before she heads off to her show at Toronto's North by North East spectacle, while giving some attention to a few other good festivals coming up soon.

On top of that, my connesurious co-host Natalee delivers her choice songs of what makes an ideal wedding playlist, in honour of her sister's wedding coming up in a few days. The Easter holiday is one to be spent with family and friends, and that includes all of you, my faithful listeners!

On this edition, Shameless brings you two great bands, the first - Yell at Birds, the latest endeavour of my pal Richie of Jakartah, and introducing his new cohort Carmen bringing forth a new sound as a new ensemble with their debut album, "Tales of Quay".

The other, a talented troope from all over the world, is Wee Boy Pretty, and they stopped by with an assortment of their gear to do a live set on the air for us to hear. They also brought along brownies! That big thing in the picture to the left is in fact supposed to be a giant brownie everyone is standing in.

If there's one thing I love, it's a reunion (provided you're not reuniting with someone you owe money to, in which case, I don't owe these people anything). I was joined by CJ Wallis, director and composer turned rock star with a new musical outfit entitled "Elective", and JP Lancaster, lead singer and vox of local band Cairo!

Now despite the familiarity of the cast, this show was special for several reasons, for one, there was a thumb wrestle (and I don't need to tell you how special a thumb wrestle can make any gathering), secondly, JP brought along a fully mastered track from Cairo's upcoming debut album, along with some demo tracks that differ from anything else out there. Not to be outdone, CJ also brought along a mastered Elective track, to add to the fun, he phoned up and interviewed his musical colleague from NY - Kayleigh Goldsworthy, whom he has never met - dare I say, it was the first time in radio history a band has actually met on the air? Ever year, CiTR takes a couple weeks out of its schedule to raise some funds to keep the station a-rockin' as well as it ever does. This is a show full of new acquaintances - first guest up is JP Lancaster of Vancouver band Cairo, who guest-hosts the show and gives us some stories from shows he’s done around this town (and the town of Nanaimo), along with some of his choice tracks for the show. What was intended to be a tribute to the summer of 2009 ended up being a fantastical campfire party minus the campfire. This edition was made special by appearances by the members of (relatively) new Vancouver band Katastroyka, as well as two lads in charge of the Midnight Movies at my favorite theatre in town, The Rio (on Broadway and Commercial), as well as two members of Pretty Vanilla who have recently found themselves a new drummer after their previous one left them on the road, and finally the show concludes with an acoustic performance by local busker Bodhi Jones. All in all, a show possibly more memorable than the summer of 2009 itself!

Nerd Alert! Kellarissa stopped by for the first half of the show to tell us of her musical endeavours thus far, and to play some tracks that made her the artiste she is today.

For the second half, some friends and I took the roles of various starfleet officers (and not-quite officers) as we fended off a hapless Enterprise-D from the clutches of renegade Klingon warrior Kavok in the Star Trek VHS board game. What with having a 3-hour show, and the previous visit from songstress Adaline getting cut short, this seemed like the right time for another attempt at a live set from her. But, due to technical difficulties that was cut short again... however, thanks to some cable-swapping (like a scene from the boot of the Millennium Falcon) we got a little something from her. You'd think a show this good would live for a podcast, but alas, they are down until further notice.

But maybe this kind of magic can only be captured like the lightning that is live to air radio... (or a snippet from the inevitable best-of-2009 special) who knows!

Anyway, this show started off with the crazy hip hop style befit of our first subject, Shad K., who told us all about the Grammys, Warped Tours, and our mutual love of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (and hip hop). From there, we moved on to the sweeter but no less crazy style of the Submarines, who were coming up from LA the next day to play a show here in Vancouver, you may have heard their music on all the TV shows that are worth watching. We end it off with nothing short of the most crazy member of Vancouver own (and Nanaimo's own) Madonna Bangers with David Thee King Elmherst, aka The Divine Profit in the ECCW circle. Though he chastised me for not being up to the holy standard, I did make up for it by playing his girlfriend's band, and his band.

He also stars in the music video for Apollo Ghosts' Angel Acres, which is fantastic and also features CiTR's own Chris-a-riffic! (I stole that link off the CiTR twitter).

As it so happens, this day marks my 8th year in college radio. In honour of this meager accomplishment, I took it back to 2001 with a mostly hip hop-themed show just like I did when I first graced the mic.

In addition to my self-gratifying diatribes, I was joined by local MC Kaboom Atomic, who graces every genre and style imaginable. He has the accolade of having the only song in the history of BC radio to be played on every station (it was a rap about the Vancouver Canucks), with him was my old colleague from my previous life in Nanaimo college radio, Sandeep the Soul Survivor, who busted out a nearly flawless impression of yours truly.

In the final hour, things were turned over two Code and Young A.K., two members of the multi-city Teflongang crew.

Everyone freestyled, it was a beautiful thing.

This edition marks many special things - a reunion with Dead Mike, whom I basically started my sojourn in unpopular radio with many moons ago, he also inducted me into his punk band Barfburn. Also returning was Kevin Mental of Fake Shark! Real Zombie! who has a solo podcast of biblical proportions. With him, he brings the two people who run the studio from which he does his extra-special Wrestlemania-esque editions, and one of those people (Justin) happens to be in the band The Patience Product, the other (Christine) played Denise`s roommate on `Different World` (prove me wrong). The show also features Brian Welch (formerly of Korn) talking about durgs and God, and a band fronted by rotweilers... what the hell kind of live show that must be!
